| The picture belonged to Dorothy Chatham Lawrence. She said when anyone came to Texas, in those days, they fixed good places for their horses, before building homes for their family. This had to be done to keep Indians from stealing the horses. There are two horses in this picture - "Old Pink" and "Old Baldy". |

| Facts: He was married before to Francis Wilson and had 11 children. Sometime around 1867 his wife and almost all of the children were poisoned. It is told by family members that it was the cook and it was done with nightshade. WR was an overseer on a plantation in Montgomery Alabama. Before the civil war, he had punished or killed the cooks man. The details are very sketch and has not been proven at this time. But six of the eleven children and Francis died. He quickly married Martha probably to help raise the smaller children. They moved to Texas before 1870. WR also served in the Civil War with the Montgomery Co. Reserves. |
